Rangercast Episode 146: Cogito Ergo Sum
Well, ladies and gents, this is it. The series finale of Power Rangers as we know it. RPM has been great fun, but it's time to break it down. Tonight an overloaded crew (Tyler, Chris, Ryland, Tom C, Tom M, Evan and Darrin) run down the finale, "Danger and Destiny" and how RPM holds up as a whole in the Hall of Legends, as it were. Naturally, there was a lot to talk about. Our chat, recorded Sunday night, went long. Way long. Like two-plus hours. So not everybody could even stick with us the entire time. Maybe it's for the best. Otherwise we might still be recording.

Also, rampant fan conjecture needs to stop. Seriously.

We also have three voicemails from our listeners about what MMPR means to them. Thanks to those who sent in their thoughts.

On Saturday, Tyler will be doing a solo show before he jets off to London breaking down the basics of the remastered MMPR episodes "Day of the Dumpster" and "High Five." So keep an eye out for that. Unless, of course, Tyler gets a control tower dropped on him. That seems to happen every now and then.

Reports of this site's impending death have been greatly exaggerated. We've got some awesome stuff in 2010, but a lot of it involves events, plane tickets of even just some lines of code here and there, so there's not much to really talk about just yet. We can assure you we're not going anywhere. Have a happy and safe New Year from all of us at Rangercast!

Rangercast Episode 145: Venting Our Frustrations
Tyler, Tom M. and Darrin take on the Kamen Rider Dragon Knight finale. Not because we want to. Rather, because it is our solemn duty. Where did this promising show go wrong? Find out.

Also, summaries for MMPRv2 are hitting online listing sites and cable systems. But some stations, like Baltimore's WMAR, are convinced they're airing Jungle Fury. God, no.

And in less than 48 hours (depending on where you are), the series finale of Power Rangers is set to air. Prepare for some awesome.

Rangercast Episode 144: Knight and Day
Two new episodes of Power Rangers RPM ("If Venjix Won" and "End Game") come and save us from Kamen Rider Dragon Knight and remind us what it's like to have shows that don't suck. Tyler, Ryland, Tom C, Darrin and Eric (MegaRyu124x) talk about what went right, what went wrong and what just didn't make a whole lot of sense.

As for Dragon Knight, we'll have a full breakdown (there's a fitting word if I've ever heard one) of the show's thrilling conclusion next time on Rangercast. Ugh. Tom M. spent his weekend watching the whole show marathon-style. He'll try to bust out of his strait jacket long enough to join us.

In RB Masterpiece Theater, EZ Rider shares his thoughts with the world.

Rangercast Episode 143: Kamen and Going
Tyler and Tom M. riff on the canning of Kamen Rider Dragon Knight, leaving two episodes unaired and hundreds of fans going into full-on WHAARBARGL mode. What does it mean for Toku in the US? Does it mean anything? And why is Adness bothering to pretend things are all well and good? In any case, recent episodes are doing KRDK no favors. Oh, and if you want to dress up as a Karshian for Halloween, you can get a mask at any Halloween store. It the generic alien one. Yeeaaahhh.

Also, RPM is coming back after a 10 week break to air its final four episodes. Yeah, Power Rangers RPM. Remember that show? I hear it was kind of good and stuff.

And leave your well wishes for Chris. He's been going through some rough times lately. That's why he hasn't been on much.

Ooh, also, Tyler just got an official invite to Balticon 44. So you'll be hearing some more about that soon...

Rangercast Episode 142: Null the Void
Tyler and the Toms spend 40 minutes of your precious time shooting the breeze and riffing on the news during The Great Break. Today's slim pickings:

-Power Morphicon 2: This Time It's Personal. Dates are up. See you in Pasadena!
- Tyler's going to London in January, so somebody will be around keeping the fires burning.
-We have a schedule for MMPRv2. There are some big time spoilers circulating for this new season, but we believe none of them. Like that one about the floating head... that's so '90s...
-More toys are floating to stores for the holiday season. But with the good comes the bad. Does this look like a Dragon Dagger to you?
-Kamen Rider Dragon Knight is still terrible in ways few shows dare to attempt. They're in a race to the bottom to make their own plot irrelevant. But at least the game looks fun.

What does MMPR mean to you as the remasters come closer to airing? Call in and let us know -- your answers might be played on an upcoming episode. Also, we're planning some cool things for Rangercast in the future. If you have ideas, show topics or cons you want to see us do a live show at (we're penciling in two already), drop us a line.

Rangercast Episode 141: Ages Like A Fine Whine
Four typical average Rangercast hosts (Tyler, Chris, Tom C, Tom M) turn back the clock ten years and review the first three episodes of "Big Bad Beetleborgs." It didn't age well. At all. We plan to keep this going, so keep the therapists at the ready.

Also, "Kamen Rider Dragon Knight" got hardcore. They killed -- excuse me -- vented Kit Taylor and brought in The Chairman to straighten things out with his Retcon Rider powers. And New toys are hitting your local Wal-Mart. Must get Lord Zedd...

Finally, disregard the K7 line we mention at the end of every episode. We're on Google Voice now, so click that button over yonder.

Rangercast Episode 140: Jack The Ripper
Rangercast strikes back with a full house! Tyler, Chris, Tom, Evan (Elk) and not-British Tom (y3k) talk up what's been happening during the long drought until the last block of new RPM episodes.

-New spoilery synoposes are out for episode 29 and 30 of RPM
-What is Disney up to with MMPR remastered? What's their strategy? Are they the only sane men (and mouse)?
-KRDK and why it's still meh. But it could be soooo much worse.
-How is RPM doing, on the whole?
-Quite possibly the worse rendition of the Spiderman toku theme ever, courtesy of Evan

Rangercast Episode 139: Retarded Seal
Sorry this took so long. Tyler had... things happen and it was just impossible to get the people together.

Tyler, Tom, Chris and Chris' dogs talk about all the things we missed, including "Key to the Past," "Beyond a Doubt," "Control-Alt-Delete," "Run Ziggy Run," some KRDK, the news about MMPR, the Black Plague, the Spanish Inquisition, the "Brady Bunch" reunion...

Oh, also, I will only accept an ending to this penned by the staff of "Robot Chicken." Not Joey from Idaho. Not even Ryland from Washington state. Only Seth Green. Because that's the only way it can not suck.

Interview with John Tellegen
John Tellegen, a longtime writer for Power Rangers, agreed to do an e-mail interview with us, since timing and whatnot wouldn't allow him to actually have a phone chat on the show. Tellegen started out on the show as a writer's assistant with Ninja Storm, started writing episodes with the widely-enjoyed "Shane's Karma" two-parter and the rest from there was history. Tellegen stayed with the show for seven seasons. Enjoy!

How did you first end up writing for Power Rangers?

I wrote a feature film that Doug Sloan read. From there he hired me as the writer's assistant for Ninja Storm. I pitched the story for "Shane's Karma" and the rest is history. Doug is still a good friend of mine, and a great guy. He launched my career.

As someone with one of the longest tenures on the writing staff, what appealed to you about writing it?

As any writer will tell you, your first paid writing gig is the hardest to land. I was very excited for the opportunity. I think the best thing about Rangers is the fact that almost anything can happen - it's fantasy. A format like Rangers opens all the doors of possibility.

Inversely, what do you think about the show and its writing appeals to others?

I can only guess, but it seems to me that Rangers in some way helped spark the "superhero" craze that we are living in now. For many kids, Power Rangers is their entry point. Beyond that, who knows what makes anything a hit.

Jackie and Greg had mentioned the production staff weren't allowed furniture during the Kalish years, to encourage activity rather than sitting around. Did the writer's room finally get chairs after Bruce left?

Not sure - I never heard that. But I can say that I always had a chair of some sort. Did Bruce ever confirm this? Funny.

What was your favorite episode to write?

Jeez, I wrote close to 50 and helped (as we all did) on countless others. Over the years, the tone changed because of different showrunners and notes from Disney (make it funnier, now it's too funny, make it scarier, now make it more exciting, wait, why isn't it funny anymore?)... Even though it wasn't well received by many on RB, the first draft of Ocean Alert was hilarious and a blast to write. I even stuck a review on my refrigerator that referred to me as "Craptacular" -- It's become part of my lexicon.

What was your favorite episode you didn't write?

I wrote an episode of RPM that never made it to camera. It was a heartfelt Flynn story. There were a few reasons why it was hijacked - I don't want to get into specifics - but it's unfortunate. You guys would have liked it.

Saban PR would often continue a cast or seasonal premise and adapt the next Sentai as a continuation. If you could have continued a cast or seasonal premise beyond its source footage, which one would you have picked?

Interesting question. When you do a new season every year with new characters etc., you run over some of the same ground - the first episodes are spent meeting the characters, getting them powers, setting up the premise, etc. It's hard though to bridge seasons because the source footage could go from dinosaurs to space - not impossible, but tricky. I think my favorite cast was the Ninja Storm crew - though I liked SPD a lot as well. I thought it would be cool to do a whole season using our favorite actors/characters from the previous seasons. Almost like a dream team season. Never happened.

Were there even discussions about adapting Shinkenger, or was the
writing always on the wall for the entire year?

The writing was on the wall every year! Then we would get the word that we were doing another season. We never knew until the last hour. Always remember that the fate of our favorite shows on any network rests on a spreadsheet on the desk of a businessman or woman in an office we will never see. You just keep working until the axe falls.

On Location @ Anime Expo VIDEO Part II: The Experience
Yes, we know this is nearly three months after the fact. Stop mocking me.

In Part II of On Location, we have clips of the panels, costumes and odd moments culled from our more than six hours of footage.

Real life kept Tyler from editing this as fast as he would like. So Shamus "Rider Jetfire" Kelley swooped in kind of like Batman and finished it in time for Tigercon. The Tigercon panel didn't quite go as planned, but it went and you'll hear about that next time. Enjoy!

Rangercast Episode 138: Will You Teach Me To Love?
The crew from 137 keeps going and talks about "And... Action" and the far better "Ancient History." We start getting sleepy towards the end, so we start getting weird.

-Mack is a dismantled sexbot
-"And... Action" as our Rosetta Stone?
-Other things Col. Truman should have had on his mind
-Fun with holograms
-other stuff?
-Disney plans to burn off the rest of RPM before the end of the year, in what is both good news and bad news.

See you at Tigercon. We have some stuff to premiere there. Not too hard to guess what it is, since we've been slacking on it for some time...

Rangercast Episode 137: Gemma In The Rough
So one of our own, Gemma Lascio, was on an episode of MTV's "True Life" yesterday. I'm sure you can find the whole episode with just a bit of YouTube browsing.

In this episode of Rangercast, Chris, Eric, Tom and Tyler chat with Gemma about the experience of doing the episode and what got edited out. (Hint: A lot.)

Also, in a shocking turn of events, Tyler is funny. Be ready, ladies and gentlemen.

Next time: The crew kept recording long into the night and talked about "And... Action," "Ancient History," the newest KRDK and the latest news.

Alternate titles for this episode: OHMYGODHOWMUCHISTHAT, Just A Friend

Rangercast Episode 136: Feeling Decadent
Blah blah blah, excuses excuses, yeah I know. But between connection issues at home and big things happening in work, school and real life in general. I certainly apologize for the delay and will try not to let it happen like this again.

Tonight, Tyler, Ryland, Tom and Hayden talk about "Not So Simple," "The Dome Dolls" and what's up with Dragon Knight. And yes, we know "And....Action" happened. It just happened after we recorded this. See above. That, and does it really count as an episode anyway? There's a question for the panel!

Also, Kamen Rider Decade ended, in the loosest possible sense of the word, as Double began. Look for Tyler and Gemma somewhere in MTV's "True Life: I'm a Fanboy," airing 9/19 at 4 PM (not 1 PM as we thought before recording). Also, Hayden tells us a little about his involvement with the NO H8 Campaign and working with ranger actors and crew members to make a difference.

Finally, a reminder: Tyler and Tom will be at Tigercon on Saturday, 9/26. There will be a Rangercast live panel. You have been warned.

Rangercast Episode 135: An Evening With Kerrigan Mahan
Congratulations to all who guessed this.

We sat down for a long chat with Kerrigan Mahan, the voice behind memorable characters like MMPR's Goldar, PRLG's Magna Defender and VR Troopers' Jeb. He talks about how he got into the business, some of the realities of the voice acting industry, what he's been up to lately and how he once used Goldar to get out of a moving violation.

While this interview is edited for sense and shenanigans, we did not edit the profanity out, because otherwise, the final result would be something like Morse code. That's why this file is labeled explicit on iTunes. Get the kiddies out of the room.

Oh, and in an interesting twist, when looking up his appearance on The Incredible Hulk,

Rangercast Episode 133: Rye-Ookey
Making up for the gap with a double-length episode! Yeah! Translation: Tyler couldn't get Part 1 edited in time to put out as its own thing, so we decided to roll in the second part and make it all one episode. Yee-haw!

In the first half, we talk about Dragon Knight's weaksauce comeback and the final episode of Eddie Guzelian's run on RPM. Also, the episode synopses for upcoming episodes of RPM continue to be lame.

In the second half, we break down "Three's a Crowd" (RPM) and "The Power of Three" (KRDK). To some people out there, it seems what Eddie did and Judd does can be good or bad depending on who did them. Yay double standards.

New guests at Power Morphicon: Matt Austin, Chris Violette, Vernon Wells and Danny Wayne Stallcup. Woo.

Also, congrats to Matt, who's getting his name in the paper everywhere. Though we wish it didn't need to take his subject dying to have it happen...

Also in this episode: Tigercon is fast approaching. Please, if you're in the area, check out our live show there. It'll be good times. And listen in this ep for some voicemails and notes from people wishing us well on four years. Hooray us.

Rangercast Episode 132: OL@Otakon 2009 Part II (Tom Caswell Is Dead To Me)
In which Tyler, Tom and Darrin talk about what went down at America's second-largest (and first bestest) anime convention and Tyler and Darrin criticize Tom for being a major tool and, as the title suggests, dead to us. Listen in for special cameos from Gerald Rathkolb and Clarissa Graffeo from Anime World Order and for some audio from the Bandai Entertainment panel with news that, if you're a toku fan, may be relevant to your interests (no, no shows getting licensed, sorry).

We also break down the news:
-Nothing happened at the Dragon Knight panel at Comic-Con. And the one thing they "announced" about new episodes coming in the fall was wrong. As of this post, new episodes are 12 hours away. Fail.
-New RPM synopses. Yeah, behind the scenes episodes are all well and good, but not when they count towards our 32. Another episode is a goofy Sentai rip, one that shouldn't be. Judd Lynn, why have you forsaken us?

And this news broke after we recorded: Walter Jones was arrested in Alabama ostensibly on a DUI. But it turns out, well, it's Alabama. And Walter was stone-cold sober. Our thoughts go out to him and we hope that cop gets it.

Programming note: There will be, assuming all pans out, a live Rangercast at Tigercon on September 26. Be there.

Rangercast Episode 131: On Location @ Otakon 2009 (Part I- Instant Replay)
Rangercast made the list of finalists for the 2009 Parsec Awards. We're not going to be at Dragon*Con, but if you're going, check out the ceremony!

After a week of sleep, food, errands and YouTube-powered procrastination, Tyler finally got to work on Otakon stuff.

Anyway, this is part 1 of our Otakon audio. Part 2 is a bit of the Bandai panel, random hijinks and your Rangercast crew talking about what went down. And here are our awesome photos taken by our awesome photographer (read: Tyler).

Here are some timecodes to make your life easier:

12:05- Tony talks about getting involved with Saban

14:27- How does Tony like Kamen Rider Dragon Knight? Funny story that. He likes it.... aaaand he worked on the game.

19:25- A fan asks a question about MMPR DVD's, which got spun into an answer you probably already know by now...

22:45- A fan asks a voice credit question about PR and Tony starts talking Wizard of Deception. He wasn't just the voice, turns out. The man was busy.

26:20- Tony talks about his thoughts about Sentai and Kamen Rider.

29:38- What was Tony's favorite episode to write? You won't be surprised.

36:52- If Tony were a Ranger, which one would he be?

44:00- What were the differences between working on the movie and working on the TV show?

52:30- Mr. "Two Quick Questions" asks about working with Thuy Trang and how Amy Jo Johnson pretends PR never happened.

Rangercast Episode 130: Gemini Jabberwocky
Tyler, Ryland, Tom and Darrin take on "In or Out" and "Prisoners." Are Gem and Gemma breaking down barriers as PR's first truly special (like the shortbus with flavored windows kind) rangers or were they just driven insane by the years of captivity? Here comes the debate!

Also, the RPM DVD's are starting to hit the streets. We say pick it up, because it's RPM.

Meanwhile, the show's ratings hit rock bottom, the lowest point on ABC Kids ever. How bad? Dragon Knight had six times the viewers with a rerun. Ouch.

Rangercast Episode 129: On Location at Anime Expo 2009 (Part II- Remember the Time...)
I don't know why, but the last two good titles I've been able to come up with are inspired by recently-deceased celebrities. Meh.

Here come the audio interviews from Anime Expo. Enjoy! For your convenience, here are timecodes to jump to your favorite clip.

2:07- Cerina Vincent, Reggie Rolle and Amy Rolle talk about doing their own stunts and hosting slumber parties
9:07- Babara Goodson talks about how she got cast, fired then rehired as Rita Repulsa and some of the strange ways she's been recognized.
19:21- Nakia Burrise talks about what it was like joining a show very much in progress and what she's working on these days.
22:39- Roger and Blake talk about fan feedback and how they reacted when they first got cast.
27:10- Patricia Ja Lee talks about how her Ranger days prepped her for Resident Evil 5 as some dude tries to sell us ice cream.
31:27- Dan Southworth shares stories and talks about how his days in the suit made him a better Ranger actor out of it.

Coming soon: Part 3- The Experience and Rangercast On Location video from the con, including more interviews. Oh yes.

Coming this weekend: Rangercast Episode 130, featuring episode discussion for "In or Out" and "Prisoners." Meanwhile, three of your favorite Rangercasters will be partying at Otakon! Woot!

Rangercast Episode 128: On Location at Anime Expo (Part I- But Wait... There's More!)
Tyler's all back and recovered from Anime Expo. Slowly but surely, he's digging through the audio and video from the crazy weekend. Between work and class and other obligations, this may take a bit. And with Otakon looming in the distance, you won't be able to complain of a dead feed for a good long while.

So the first part of our three part Anime Expo coverage is high-quality audio from the Saturday afternoon panel with the guests. Yes, that's right. All 13 of them. You hear the awkward questions, the laughs and Barbara Goodson stepping into the old Rita voice like a comfortable pair of screechy shoes. Not included is the second part of the panel, geared towards the villains. We made a judgment that the audio wasn't high-quality enough (behind the scenes issues) and the content of the panel just wasn't significant enough to post. It went a little like this (skip to 1:05) only with more "Can you say this?," awkward pauses and even more awkward questions.

Coming soon are interviews with the guests and some of the crazy fandom antics you've come to know and love... I think. Also, video. Good video. When it's edited, we'll let you know.

We also have some awesome photos up, right over here.

Rangercast Episode 127': Blunder Twin Powers, Activate
Tyler, Tom, Ryland and -- for the first time in 50 episodes -- Lisa J take on "Ghosts." The Sentai-burning Gold and Silver intro episode leaves us minus one dumb van and plus two really annoying rangers. You win some, you lose some. Then we launch into a variety of random topics:

-We read synopses of the next round of RPM episodes
-Kamen Rider and logic and their sick, twisted relationship. Also, why Masked Rider was so messed up.
-The RPM vol. 1 DVD hits July 7. Don't be a dirty pirate like Tom. Support the last season.
-Anime Expo is a hair over a week from now. The schedule is up. Let's do this.
-And Brandon MacLaren had to cancel. The SPD Red Ranger, again, had work. And good on him. Besides him, Amy Jo Johnson and Skylar Deleon (Day-lee-on? Or Dee-lee-ohn? Will we ever know), not many PR stars (or fake ones) have shaken the apparent curse.

With the next RPM episode airing *during* Anime Expo, his will be it from us until after the con. Look for Tyler there Thursday through Saturday. If you will be there and have audio/video/photo equipment that you know how to use and wish to help Tyler out, email us. See you at the con!

And speaking of cons, in the time between when this episode was recorded and when it was posted, Power Morphicon 2 was officially announced. Now, we would be lying if we said we didn't have our little birdies out there, but it's reassuring to finally see an official announcement.

And no, the apostrophe in the title is not a typo.

Rangercast Episode 126: Going Viral
Chris "Cmdr Crayfish" Funaro makes his triumphant return to Rangercast, by popular demand.

Chris, Tyler, Tom and Darrin break down some recent Toku news, including the upcoming Kamen Rider Double and Tsuburaya shopping around Ultraman. Can we haz decent DVDs first?

Next, we break down "Embodied," and we brought our A-Game. What is Venjix doing? Why does Col. Truman not care? Why do the Rangers not mind that Doctor K screwed them all over? Why are Gem and Gemma...existing? Who are you people? AND WHERE IS MY HORSE?!

Also, Rangercast is confirmed to hit Anime Expo in a couple weeks. Send in your questions for the PR guests and we'll try to get them answered.

Finalle, between editing and posting, we got an email from the Parsec Awards. We've been nominated for Parsecs in Best Fan Podcast and Best Speculative Fiction podcast. Wish us luck.

Rangercast Episode 125: Ding
So there was a Fancasts panel back at Balticon. If you didn't know that, you're in good company -- the audience was two, three people at peak. It was 11 PM on a Sunday, so we could have seen it coming, but yet we soldiered on with the mixer and recorder running.

I had the pleasure to share the stage... or dining-room-style table, as it were, in the Chesapeake Suite with Ted and Michele White of Galactica Quorum, Billy Flynn from Geek Radio Daily and MA from Fanboy Hell. We talk shop. How did we get to doing what we do? What have been our personal crowning moments of awesome? What do we do when our target show (be it Battlestar Galactica or, well, Power Rangers) ends? Do all of us have awesome British fans? Find out!

And of course, huge props to Paul Fischer for pulling all of this programming at Balticon together and to the engineer who let me pull the audio data off their computer a the end. We will make an effort to do a live Rangercast next year, so stay tuned.

Also, back by popular demand, it's Rangerboard Masterpiece Theatre! In this installment, GreenRangerPower, a RB member since 2003 with more than 71,000 posts to his name, suddenly wonders why we do what we do. Were it not the policy for RBMT to use only posts made since the last episode, this guy would have given us enough material in a week to last us a year.

Back to your regularly scheduled Rangercast next week. Now off to watch some Shinkenger.

Rangercast Episode 124: She Blinded Me With Science
Tyler, Ry, Gemma, Darrin and (later in) Tom peruse the responses to the Rangercast survey linked in 123's show notes. If you haven't taken it yet, please go ahead and let us pick your brains. Some of the responses were amusing. Some insightful. Then there was apparently a response from George Rodd or a skilled imitator. I'm sorry, Ben 10 and Mystic Force just are not a proper combination for our podcast. It's like ice cream and... hmm... Old Bay, to use a Baltimore classic. Yeah, ice cream and Old Bay. Separately they're delicious. But I'd never put Old Bay on my ice cream. I'm sure some people do, though.

Then it's on to episode discussion. "Brother's Keeper" kicks off a few RPM-free weeks. Some people thought it would be about Gem and Gemma. Some people thought it would be about Scott and Marcus. All of them were wrong, as it turned out to chronicle the budding bromance between Scott and Dillon, handcuffing them together and making every slash fanfic writer squeal in glee. Meanwhile, Doctor K talks out of a thesaurus. And Ziggy always seems to know what happens next. It's like he watches the show or something.

And don't worry, dear listeners. We have things to keep you busy during the brief RPM hiatus. We have our ways.

Rangercast Episode 123: On Location @ Katsucon 2009... kinda (Featuring Tony Oliver)
A certain host and producer is detained at Balticon in Hunt Valley, Md., hanging out with podcasting friends like Tee Morris, Paul Fischer and Cthulhu. So from the archives, we bring you this panel with Tony Oliver at Katsucon from back in February.

Yes, at one point we promised you a full Katsucon show. But the fact of the matter is that very little relevant to this show happened. And also the MacBook used to produce this show broke on the way home. It hit the pavement outside the Metro station in Greenbelt. Funny story, that. Anyway, that's probably a sign of some deity that a Katsucon show simply is not meant to be. Of course, we've spoken with Tony before, but this panel offers some morsels of new insights buried within as Tony educates the unwashed masses.

To refresh your memory of the con that was, here are the photos from the con.

Next week, we take on Brother's Keeper and then no new episode of RPM until 6/13. Hopefully we'll find something to entertain you.

And yes, I am working on getting to Anime Expo. Plane plans, check. Lodging, check. Money... plastic. Time off work? Er, I hope? Like the bumper at the beginning of this show said, a little help would rock. I'm not begging. But hey, if you like us, definitely kick in a few bucks to help us keep doing what we're doing and help fund crazy trips like AX.

Also, if you're an avid listener of RC, or even if you're just jumping aboard, we want to pick your brains. Click HERE to take a quick survey. Thanks a bunch!

(And if you're joining because you grabbed the Rangercast flyer at Balticon or heard me talk about it at a panel, welcome. Check out our archives for added listening pleasure!)

So, yeah, Anime Expo...
Via Anime Expo's official site, the PR representation at AX just got crazier. As you read this, Tyler is working on ways to get out there, and most certainly will try. It's not going to be easy and it's not going to be cheap. Airfare will run about $300. Supplies, hotel, etc. drive things up. If you'd like to join the fight to get Rangercast On Location @ Anime Expo, donate a dollar or two with that nifty little Paypal button up there in the corner. We don't ask much. We'd love you for it.

Rangercast Episode 122: The Eyes Have It
The crew tackles "Doctor K" and "Blitz." Twin tropes and helmet shots piss us off, but emo backstories are good times. And is Venjix THE Venjix? Did "Doctor K" seal the deal on that? Are you tired of the debate? Also, Tyler makes terrible horse puns and Impy wishes to remind you that the horse porn store is closed. Sorry, horse porn fans.

In other news, Tyler and Mike's Otakon panel got rejected, along with panels by a lot of other awesome people, which kind of sucks. But hey, that's life, and either way, it'll be fun.

Speaking of cons, if you're in the area, drop by Balticon this weekend for Tyler talking about podcasting and other fun stuff. And also Calls for Cthulhu. That guy rocks.

Rangercast Episode 121: On Location @ Akiba Fest
Our interviews got kind of washed out due to time constraints, but we figure we've heard from Psychic Lover and Unicorn Table before, at least.

What you're about to hear is Tyler and Gemma talking about what happened and the awesome stuff, some of which we can't talk too much about, which is why this episode is so darn short. Ah well.

Also, here are pictures. The album is now updated with pictures of Psychic Lover, Unicorn Table and some fat, balding podcaster, all courtesy of Gemma Lascio. Thanks Gemma.

Sorry this episode is coming so late. Between scheduling issues and exams, it was just hard to make happen then find the time to edit it all. Episode 122 should (cross your fingers) be recording tonight, so there's that.

I'm sure all of you are waiting for RC121 with bated breath. But exam season kind of has priority. As of... an hour or so after this post, Tyler will have just one final left, so 121 and 122 will follow in short order. Stay tuned.

Rangercast Episode 120: Royal Corinthian Kilted Scotsman
Yeah, we know we move fast.

Anywho, back to your regularly scheduled Rangercast. Tyler, Ry, Darrin, Hayhay and Tom start out by chatting about the PRRPM DVD's. God we hope they sell well, because we finally want to buy them. Also, we talk about "Ranger Yellow" a two-parter that Tyler hates more than Ryland. It's true! Then on to the significantly better "Ranger Blue," which wishes to subtly remind you that Flynn is Scottish. Well huh. Who could've guessed?

Also, Tyler will be at Balticon May 22-25 doing some panels. Drop by and say hi.

Rangercast vs. Fanfiction Episode 2: Pink with Chili and Mayonnaise

If you liked Episode 1, you'll love episode 2! Now edited better with more features!

In part one, we read out a fanfic that rewrites the character of Kat with a moral so twisted that it's disgusting.

In part 2, the fanfic is disgusting in the traditional sense. Not for the faint of heart.

Rangercast Episode 119: Shaken Baby Syndrome
Tyler, Ry, Tom and Darrin break down "Ranger Red." For the first time we have a Red Ranger who isn't whiny and emo despite having perfectly good reasons to be whiny and emo. Also, when in need of a weapon, a baby will do just fine. Nice work, Scott.

Also, yes, we know Judd Lynn is credited in the show now. We take the time to remind you all to shut the heck up about backstage drama. This is a kid's show. Not a soap opera.

And finally, Tyler's colleague invoked PR in a column about film reboots. How would a PR reboot film work?

Rangercast Episode 118: Mob Mentality
Yeah, things happened, so no Akiba Fest episode just yet. However, I do have pictures, so gaze your eyes upon those. Yeah, it was epic win.

Today? Tyler, Ry, Tom and Hayden deconstruct "Ranger Green" and can't really find all that much wrong with it. This feels weird. Also, why are fans stupid?

Meanwhile, in Dragon Knight land, "Xaviax's Promise" as one of the most heavily-hyped episodes of the season on a certain message board. We found it underwhelming. Yeah, it's cool. But it's still an episode of Dragon Knight, with all the Zoolander faces and sunglasses that ensue. Though more Xaviax and less Grace can only be a good thing.

Rangercast Episode 117: An Interview With David de Lautour
We were fortunate to land a brief interview with New Zealand actor David de Lautour tonight. Best known to PR fans as RJ in Jungle Fury, he's been in numerous shows ranging from "That's What I Like About You" to "Xena" to the more recent "Legend of the Seeker." I chatted with him about what went into the role of RJ, the difficulties of learning to make pizza and how darn odd it is to see his character in the toy store. Also, we get his opinion on the highly controversial laser knees. Badass weapon or overused ploy? FIND OUT.

Rangercast Episode 116: M-I-C-K-E-Y M-O-U-S-E
The big news? No more fund drives. No more begging and pleading. No more auctions.

In a quite magnanimous gesture, The Walt Disney Company has offered to invest in the show to the tune of an amount I cannot disclose (It has a lot of zeroes but isn't zero). But don't worry! We'll still be the independent source for PR commentary and wisecracks you've come to know and love.

Tonight on Disney's Rangercast?

-Disney announces plans to bring the monsters of Angel Grove to Disneyland.
-We rehash "Handshake," a truly stunning bit of social commentary. Nothing goes deeper than comments about hair and cars and Addams Family references.
-We tear apart the new Kamen Rider Dragon Knight episode thingy. What awful morals to be teaching kids. Motorcycles aren't safe. Sunglasses aren't cool. And trying to take over the world is so 20th century.

Tonight's panelists: Tyler, Chris, Ryland, Tom, Hayden (whose horseback lessons are going well, thanks for asking)

Finally, Disney's Rangercast is pleased to unveil our new forums! Post away!

Rangercast Episode 115: The Sky is (still) Falling
Occurred to me that I had used this episode title before. So the sky is not just falling. It's STILL falling. Panelists (seriously almost just typed Pantalists...dunno why): Tyler, Ryland, Darrin, Tom

-Rangerboard is going down 1/1/10, if RPM is really the end. Who will fill the void left by the taco-hungry webmaster?
-So after Eddie Guzelian, some actors and the New Zealand Herald were all like "Yeah, PR's canceled," Bandai's all like LOLWUT.
-Episode discussion: "Go for the Green." We, again, approve.
-Dragon Knight: If that kid really had asthma, he'd be dead by now.

Also, we have some *big* Rangercast news for next time. Stay tuned...

Rangercast Episode 114: A Dry Rain
Panelists: Tyler, Ryland, Hayden and our new guy, Tom (MysticSentai). He's British and a cool dude.

We dissect the third episode of RPM, "Rain." It's a magical rain that gets nobody wet. Also, Dillon wants to remind you he's a badass with the power to tear grunts apart, but only when the camera isn't looking.

Tyler contacted Disney's press people and got a "no comment" on PR's impending doom. Yes, Chicken Little, the sky is falling.

So yeah, RPM. Duuuuuuude. It feels good to not hate my favorite show. This is something I haven't felt in like four years. It's weird. Anyway, Tyler, Chris, Darrin, Ry and Hayhay talk up "The Road to Corinth" and "Fade to Black."

And is it the beginning of the end for PR?

(This post was typed while thinking in a Scottish/Australian accent. Thanks Flynn!)

Also, we forgot to mention it in the episode, but this kid is just so unintentionally hilarious. He's also afraid of Tyler.

Sweet Sorrow: Power Rangers canned
From the New Zealand Herald (via Rangerboard) comes word that PR is canceled. Granted, the article contains a fair bit of Cowboy BeBop At His Computer, but it appears to be the real deal.

Seventeen years, 700-some episodes is a good run for any show. Now, the desperate among us may wonder if this is just the end of Ranger Productions and the NZ era. That may very well be the case, but prepare for these 32 episodes of RPM to be the last hurrah for a while.

And speaking of which, talk about timing. RPM premieres in Eastern time in about five hours. All this and more in Rangercast Episode 113: The Bittersweet Symphony, coming soon to a podcast feed near you.

-Eddie Guzelian hopped on Bentaboard to cover himself.
-PR is ending? Is the sky falling?
-The Silver RPM Ranger's name is Gemma. Lulz.
-Disney finally admits RPM exists. The premiere is a mere two days away. Are you ready?
-Dragon Knight? Getting better. And Matt Mullins' Botox finally wore off.

Oh, and here are some pics from Katsucon. It was much fun. Audio forthcoming when Tyler has free time.

Back Into Action?
The repair place said I should have my precious lappy back tomorrow-ish Saturday?....Sunday? Eventually? Yay.

Also, Rangercast kind of needs money. $10 Libsyn bills, new equipment, con trips... All of it weighs heavily on my bank account and my credit card. Ergo, I'm going to be auctioning off some of my stuff in the near future to help the cause. And because I'm not a total money-grubbing ass, a portion of the proceeds will be directed to WTMD, a Towson, Md.-based public (and online!) radio station. If you feel like donating directly via Paypal, the same applies.

Rangercast Episode 111: Everything's Coming Up Milhouse
-That new RPM trailer? Yeah, holy crap.

-Eddie Guzelian got canned halfway through RPM. This we know, but who replaces him?

-Judd freaking Lynn, that's who.

-Eddie befell a martyr's fate as Chip came from the underworld sent by Mickey Mouse to dismantle all the good he had done or WHY PEOPLE NEED TO QUIT IMPOSING A NARRATIVE.

-Toei decided more Den-O was somehow a good idea. We're above climax jokes, so we're not going to make one here.

Also, this episode is being robo-posted because Tyler's at Katsucon. More on that later.

Rangercast Episode 110: LOLESKER
Tonight on Rangercast, a full house (Tyler, Chris, Ry, Hayhay, Darrin) takes up the hot topics of the moment:

-Jack Olesker. What the hell just happened?

-Dragon Knight. It stopped sucking. Yay.

-We get voicemails and stuff from people! And Eric sounds like a dude!

Also, like the day after we recorded this, the RPM floodgates opened, relatively speaking. Check out RC111 in a few days for our take. If you've been following the comments or any of the forums out there, you know what's up. If you haven't, here you go...

Rangercast Episode 109: While You Were Out
Rangercast returns from a loooooong break. Tonight's panel? Tyler, Ryland, Darrin, Mike Manos and newcomer Evan (Elk).

-Tyler talks about his awesome trip to Japan. Check out his pictures here!
-In the few weeks we've been gone, news has actually happened with RPM. Not quite what we wanted to hear though, as Disney reps confirm that the show will not be making the leap to the almost mind-blowingly demographic-fitting Disney XD, instead airing only on ABC Kids. Hold on... what?

-The new Executive Producer... who was sacked halfway through RPM has such illustrious credits as "American Dragon: Jake Long," "Fillmore" and "The Tigger Movie." Process that for a moment. One of the minds behind "The Tigger Movie" was reportedly fired for making RPM too dark. This doesn't compute.

-The first four episodes of Kamen Rider Dragon Knight aired while we were gone. Bad acting, good action, good story... but if a show airs and nobody watches it, does it make a sound? Reruns of Jungle Fury on ABC Kids are reportedly beating it in the ratings. It's one thing to get beaten. But by Jungle Fury?

-Kamen Rider Decade is pretty. And pretty badass.

-Shinkenger? Promising, but not for PR.

Dedicated to the memory of Richard Genelle (1961-2008). Heaven now has an awesome juice bar.

Rangercast Episode 108: The Lovable Trainwreck
In memory of The Box (2007-2008). May you make hundreds of newspapers in your next life.

The second half of the year-end stuff comes...er...three days after New Year's. Sorry, a certain webmaster/host/audio editor had a family emergency. We may be a day or three late, but not a dollar short. Tyler, Chris, Ry and Gemma gather 'round to reminisce and stuff....

-Ooh, new KRDK figures and PRSL stuff. Problem is, a couple of RPM rangers are being packaged as Super Legends. Is Bandai counting their chickens before they morph?
-We talk about our favorite Rangercast moments of 2008.
-Tyler's planning to take lots of pictures in Tokyo as you read this.
-Impy still hates the G-12 and can't stop calling it Go-on-GUR.
-Gemma needs her Japanese man porn.

So we miscalculated. This will be the last episode we record before Tyler goes on his merry way to the Land of the Rising Sun. See you guys in a few weeks.

Also, the Lost fan in me giggles at this episode number.
