At Playmates Toys' San Diego Comic-Con panel on Saturday, the toymaker announced a crowdfunding campaign for a Dragonzord toy.
In a statement, Playmates says the mega figure will be able to combine with the five Dinozords (already available in retailers) to form the Ultimate Mega Dragonzord.
The preview page is live on Kickstarter. The campaign launches on Aug. 18. Each Dragonzord will come in a full retail box, with different tiers available for fans who want to buy more than one, or want to buy the previously released Dinozords with it.
At their panel, Playmates also announced plans to expand their premium Power Rangers Ultimate Collection line to include figures from Zeo, DinoThunder and Wild Force, Tokunation reports.
Speaking to ComicBook.com, Jeff Trojan, Playmates' vice president of marketing, said the Kickstarter came about after Playmates backed out of an opportunity to sell an exclusive product at Walmart last year. Trojan implied that Playmates opted out when it looked like the product was going to be an online-only offering.
"Were the product online only, it would have been up to Playmates to determine if the tooling investment was worthwhile at the time of that first launch," he said.
Playmates ultimately decided Kickstarter was the best path forward.
Trojan aimed to allay fan concerns about inaccurate renders seen in early material and said an on-model paint master will be ready to photograph in a few weeks.
The Tigerzord is set to be a Walmart exclusive, hitting shelves in August.
