Legend of the White Dragon is available now on digital, and Oct. 20 on DVD and Blu-Ray.
There are spoilers in this episode (we give you fair warning). There is also yelling.
00:03 --> 00:07 [SPEAKER_01]: This is Ranger Cast, Episode 40, Legend of the White Dragon.
00:08 --> 00:13 [SPEAKER_01]: In this episode, we discuss and review the final project of the late Jason David Frank.
00:22 --> 00:48 [SPEAKER_00]: hey everyone this is Ranger cast as always i'm Tyler and i got Josh with me it's hot i think i saw a cactus take a drink of water please let this heat dome end please Tyler i feel this is one of Rita and said like monster of the week episode just waiting to happen have you been well there's no Rita or zed and budget of the way dragon which is what we're going to be talking about
00:49 --> 01:01 [SPEAKER_01]: A legend of the White Dragon had a weekend long engagement across the country, and it's of course the last on-screen appearance of Jason David Frank who passed away in 2022.
01:02 --> 01:12 [SPEAKER_01]: It was produced by Bad and the Sun, the outfit best known for YouTube superpower beat-downs, and that's where they first met Jason Frank.
01:13 --> 01:18 [SPEAKER_01]: It tells the story of Eric Reed, who me plays, through years after he was framed for
01:20 --> 01:27 [SPEAKER_01]: in event in which more than 2 people died in virtual city, the city where this most of the film takes place.
01:27 --> 01:32 [SPEAKER_01]: He's been living in hiding in virtual city, but returns to clear his name and reunite with his family.
01:33 --> 01:48 [SPEAKER_01]: At the same time, the former suitable exec, whose lost his family and dark day, was played by Aaron Shaky at Badnessun, who also co-wrote and directed this film with his father Sean, attempts to hunt down Eric Reed and harness some of the Dragon's power
01:50 --> 02:00 [SPEAKER_01]: The movie was directed by the shankies, like I said, it was written by Aaron Shanky with Alex Kellerman and based on Comsett's story, I should say, by Aaron Shanky and Jason David Frank.
02:01 --> 02:13 [SPEAKER_01]: The movie was to star a number of Ranger alums, like Johnny on Bosch, Catherine Sutherland, Yoshi's at our show, but due to scheduling, other concerns of what your bit money, they weren't able to take part.
02:19 --> 02:40 [SPEAKER_01]: as well as Jason Frank Stauder, Jenna, the Brownie out of the cast are Mark DeCascos, the Arrowverse is David Ramsey, and in one of his final roles, Michael Madson, the movie will head to digital on September 22nd, and be available on DVD and Blu-Ray on October 20th.
02:40 --> 02:40 [SPEAKER_01]: So,
02:49 --> 02:53 [SPEAKER_01]: I'm trying to figure out, and this is something I've had trouble with, since I saw it.
02:54 --> 03:13 [SPEAKER_01]: Looked at, you know, for what it is, if you didn't know anything else about it, I would say this is probably one of the worst movies I have seen in a theater, and I've seen Madam Web.
03:14 --> 03:20 [SPEAKER_01]: Um, it's, oh no, that means it's more, it's more, it's more, it's more, it's dreadful.
03:21 --> 03:27 [SPEAKER_01]: I was laughing from the second scene, it was really bad, it was that bad.
03:28 --> 03:41 [SPEAKER_01]: And I think it was the only person my screening was laughing, there were a lot of people just eat it up, um, but, and it's okay if you like this movie, it's okay if you like it, um, no, it's not.
03:42 --> 03:43 [SPEAKER_00]: I am the opposite.
03:43 --> 04:04 [SPEAKER_00]: No, it is not okay if you like this film I think we're gonna I think we're gonna fully discuss it obviously from two different angles, but I mean, I'm not saying I like it, but I think oh, I know I I I I was the one that warned you of you should buckle your seat belt like you're in for a ride and it's not.
04:12 --> 04:27 [SPEAKER_01]: putting aside, like I think you need to, like this is a movie that was primarily funded, I'm sure there were other sources of funding, but the primary source of funding was a half million dollar on Kickstarter.
04:29 --> 04:36 [SPEAKER_01]: And given that this was made during COVID, this is maybe one of the last COVID movies that hadn't yet been put out.
04:38 --> 04:39 [SPEAKER_01]: And the things that were up against,
04:43 --> 04:51 [SPEAKER_01]: he died at the point of production he did, put them against the wall.
04:51 --> 05:06 [SPEAKER_01]: You know, I'm not expecting this to be as good as, you know, Marvel movie, but I think that there are
05:11 --> 05:24 [SPEAKER_01]: I think there's a better movie that they could have made under their circumstances, but at the same time, that doesn't mean that I don't understand how this movie turned.
05:24 --> 05:31 [SPEAKER_01]: Like for example, there's a lot of scenes where it does expedition by newscasts, which is one of my least favorite things.
05:33 --> 06:02 [SPEAKER_01]: uh... there's got to be another way to do that but on the other hand they may have been put in position where that was the only way they could do it and also unlike other projects that have drifted powerage as fans this one actually came out you know e like the will never get a chance to hate on the order which was never released and i'm not sure if it was ever really shot
06:04 --> 06:12 [SPEAKER_01]: So I'm not sure how hard to go on this movie, knowing those things.
06:13 --> 06:24 [SPEAKER_01]: That being said, I mean, we can obviously criticize those things, but I think we have to, you know, take into account, this is their first movie.
06:25 --> 06:28 [SPEAKER_01]: And they had a lot that they were going up against.
06:32 --> 06:47 [SPEAKER_01]: I think we need to keep that in mind, but that being said, none of these actors are except maybe Mark DeCascos, who only shows up in the final act of the movie, are capable of elevating this disjointed script.
06:48 --> 06:52 [SPEAKER_01]: These directors also, of the enough, it's surprising.
06:52 --> 06:57 [SPEAKER_01]: You think that one thing that you would know how to shoot is action, but the sparse action
07:02 --> 07:27 [SPEAKER_01]: uh... there are a lot of plot holes in this movie a lot of very lazy powertures call backs you know that there are elements of this movie that make you you know wonder what could have been if chasing frank were able to realize more of his actual vision for this movie of this guy coming out of hiding and unsure if he could be
07:32 --> 07:57 [SPEAKER_01]: after all these years in hiding and that's like there's these germs of interesting story here but the movie can't really get us there and instead spends though bad in the sun denies this a lot more time with parent shankings character Jay and especially
07:58 --> 08:12 [SPEAKER_01]: you know it it was a choice for sure to leave in or add or whatever many scenes featuring Aaron Shanky's character's suicidal ideations and given the way the movie's lead died.
08:14 --> 08:17 [SPEAKER_00]: Tyler before I
08:18 --> 08:32 [SPEAKER_00]: kind of give my thoughts on this, before I give my analysis my impression, I do want to say to understand anybody who's listening to this podcast, whether it's release, you just saw the movie one year, five years down the line, whatever.
08:33 --> 08:35 [SPEAKER_00]: To understand this film, we have to discuss spoilers for this.
08:36 --> 08:40 [SPEAKER_00]: So bear in mind, going forward, anything for this was all summary.
08:40 --> 08:41 [SPEAKER_00]: This is
08:48 --> 08:49 [SPEAKER_00]: Where do I start with this film?
08:50 --> 09:11 [SPEAKER_00]: If you can even call it that Tyler, because I can, I can empathize that there was excruciating, or extenuating circumstances that led to certain filming decisions, certain cuts that led to what we got to view last week in this very limited run.
09:12 --> 09:17 [SPEAKER_00]: You are very much right, that this is at least a one out of 10 film
09:19 --> 09:22 [SPEAKER_00]: It actually made it to a theater run versus the order.
09:23 --> 09:27 [SPEAKER_00]: Again, the green ranger beat the red ranger and something spoil or whatever.
09:28 --> 09:32 [SPEAKER_00]: But let's all be clear about this movie.
09:33 --> 09:37 [SPEAKER_00]: This was the Power Rangers with the serial numbers scratched off.
09:38 --> 09:41 [SPEAKER_00]: This was a terrible movie.
09:42 --> 09:43 [SPEAKER_00]: Like, again, where do I start with this?
09:44 --> 09:46 [SPEAKER_00]: Because what do the Halo series?
09:49 --> 10:11 [SPEAKER_00]: and this film all have in common, they all had ideas that were not originally involved with their IP and the company, the shareholders, whatever it is, said no, we don't like that original idea and the only way this was ever going to be put on screen was if it was attached to something else, aka
10:12 --> 10:16 [SPEAKER_00]: Uh, the Power Rangers 2017 film Halo TV series and this film.
10:16 --> 10:18 [SPEAKER_00]: It is very very apparent.
10:18 --> 10:22 [SPEAKER_00]: This was Jason Davis Frank's idea for the Green Ranger series.
10:23 --> 10:24 [SPEAKER_00]: That did not give me that.
10:24 --> 10:27 [SPEAKER_01]: I think his was supposed to be more like shattered grid.
10:28 --> 10:30 [SPEAKER_00]: No, this is, I don't know.
10:30 --> 10:30 [SPEAKER_00]: I don't know.
10:31 --> 10:37 [SPEAKER_00]: We don't know what I did is, but there are too many, there are too many things that appear to line up that makes
10:38 --> 10:42 [SPEAKER_00]: Oh, the green Ranger, if you line these tubes side by side.
10:43 --> 10:45 [SPEAKER_00]: Green Ranger goes trying to protect the city.
10:45 --> 10:46 [SPEAKER_00]: Lots of people die.
10:46 --> 10:48 [SPEAKER_00]: Now he needs to go on his little redemption arc.
10:48 --> 10:49 [SPEAKER_00]: It lines up way too much.
10:50 --> 11:02 [SPEAKER_00]: But I think, Jayves and David Frank genuinely believed that this film, the story could fit in any medium whatsoever, regardless if it was the green Ranger or not.
11:02 --> 11:04 [SPEAKER_00]: So he went about it and got it
11:06 --> 11:08 [SPEAKER_00]: more power to you, more power to do that.
11:08 --> 11:13 [SPEAKER_00]: But no, let's all know if that was probably where the origins of this even came from at this point.
11:14 --> 11:16 [SPEAKER_00]: Now, I'm I will I will say very upfront.
11:17 --> 11:19 [SPEAKER_00]: I did not back the original Kickstarter.
11:19 --> 11:25 [SPEAKER_00]: I didn't back the most current Kickstarter because a I didn't like the costumes.
11:26 --> 11:28 [SPEAKER_00]: I outright dislike the costumes.
11:28 --> 11:29 [SPEAKER_00]: I thought they were lazy.
11:30 --> 11:31 [SPEAKER_00]: Even on screen,
11:36 --> 11:38 [SPEAKER_01]: No, they look horrible.
11:39 --> 11:43 [SPEAKER_01]: And the weight dragging suit, especially looked terrible.
11:43 --> 11:50 [SPEAKER_00]: 100% like it did not have an on-screen presence.
11:50 --> 11:52 [SPEAKER_00]: It looks very bulky.
11:52 --> 11:54 [SPEAKER_00]: It looks very half-assed.
11:54 --> 11:59 [SPEAKER_00]: The other reason I didn't back this was I did not believe in bat in the sun.
11:59 --> 12:02 [SPEAKER_00]: Going back to what you said of, there's a lot more
12:05 --> 12:17 [SPEAKER_00]: they don't get a free pass though when they've been doing this since 2002 and it they raise $500 and it costs $4 million to make.
12:17 --> 12:21 [SPEAKER_00]: I genuinely believe this film was only put out because they were in too deep.
12:22 --> 12:25 [SPEAKER_00]: There is very much rumors who knows if they're true.
12:26 --> 12:29 [SPEAKER_00]: I've heard it enough where maybe there's a grain of truth to it.
12:30 --> 12:36 [SPEAKER_00]: But even they've said there's been stuff that said that JDS that he's too deep in it now at this point to not
12:38 --> 12:40 [SPEAKER_00]: publish the film at this point or to just let it go.
12:41 --> 12:45 [SPEAKER_00]: I think he would have had a lot of people who backed this film be very upset that they were scanned.
12:45 --> 12:48 [SPEAKER_00]: So I think at some point this was going to happen.
12:48 --> 12:56 [SPEAKER_00]: I don't even think this is something of even an excuse that any one person could use that.
12:56 --> 13:01 [SPEAKER_00]: I think it's I think it's I think it's not even an excuse of oh this was
13:07 --> 13:13 [SPEAKER_00]: at this point like it's a bad film no matter like what time period you put it at at this point.
13:13 --> 13:23 [SPEAKER_00]: So yes, I acknowledge in some respects there is stuff that yes, there is no control over certain things and other parts they don't get a pass though.
13:23 --> 13:29 [SPEAKER_00]: I think that's the problem and why circle back to anybody who like this film needs to up their standards.
13:30 --> 13:31 [SPEAKER_00]: Like there is no excuse
13:37 --> 13:39 [SPEAKER_00]: I'm not, it was not just a disaster.
13:39 --> 13:49 [SPEAKER_00]: I feel like the people who back this film need to apologize to everybody else, which we have seen in some of the reviews of my bad guys, I thought we were gonna get something better.
13:50 --> 14:03 [SPEAKER_01]: But I think, I think, you know, the reviews are very, like all over the place, you know, you have like going on letterbox, like this is a very,
14:04 --> 14:07 [SPEAKER_01]: This is a film with people of all sorts of opinions on.
14:07 --> 14:11 [SPEAKER_01]: You have that person who apologized, who said, I actually helped fund this.
14:11 --> 14:12 [SPEAKER_01]: My bad, sorry for everybody.
14:12 --> 14:16 [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, that's why my bad, sorry for everybody.
14:17 --> 14:24 [SPEAKER_01]: Or, you know, the people who were just primarily happy to see Jay's David Frank one last time.
14:25 --> 14:33 [SPEAKER_01]: And it's clear that good or bad, if you hang out after the credits, you see how much fun they had making it.
14:34 --> 14:38 [SPEAKER_01]: Yes, and I think you know, but nobody can speak for J.
14:38 --> 14:40 [SPEAKER_01]: State or Frank any more because he's dead.
14:41 --> 14:41 [SPEAKER_01]: Right.
14:42 --> 14:57 [SPEAKER_01]: And so really all we have, you know, are the words of people like his daughter Jenna and his wife Tammy, who I actually did want to see this film released for, you know, issue for what it is, you know, the issue
15:05 --> 15:10 [SPEAKER_00]: Well, I will bring circle back around to like kind of the different perspectives for it.
15:11 --> 15:12 [SPEAKER_00]: They weren't going for this film.
15:13 --> 15:19 [SPEAKER_00]: They were going to have a bookmark close on seeing Jason David Frank one last time.
15:19 --> 15:23 [SPEAKER_00]: The people who showed up to this film were not in Legend of the White Dragon apparel.
15:23 --> 15:25 [SPEAKER_00]: They were wearing power Rangers gear.
15:26 --> 15:30 [SPEAKER_00]: They were for the limited amount of the show that you'd give.
15:30 --> 15:35 [SPEAKER_00]: I mean, I showed up in normal clothes, but like they were not there for that film.
15:36 --> 15:41 [SPEAKER_00]: And I think that's very telling like, did they really have faith in this film?
15:41 --> 15:44 [SPEAKER_00]: Which frustrates me to no end.
15:45 --> 15:50 [SPEAKER_00]: Like, if people are going to, I cannot trust people who say they like this film.
15:51 --> 16:01 [SPEAKER_00]: Half of it is, I think there are some who genuinely knew him and they cannot remove themselves to critically think enough that, yes, this is a bad film.
16:01 --> 16:08 [SPEAKER_00]: The other half is, I think there are some people out there whose bars are practically non-existence.
16:08 --> 16:11 [SPEAKER_00]: Where I'm seeing like, I cried during this film.
16:12 --> 16:24 [SPEAKER_00]: I, this was a masterpiece, guys, I'm sorry, reading those comments, they are eating this up like little piggy's, like, congratulations on oink oink oink eating your slopp because this is what this is.
16:25 --> 16:30 [SPEAKER_00]: And this is what frustrates me about people saying they love this film because this is how more slopp is made.
16:31 --> 16:37 [SPEAKER_00]: It is okay to say I like a bad film, but acknowledge it's a bad film.
16:37 --> 16:46 [SPEAKER_00]: So that way, everybody's on the same page of like, yes, like we should not be authenticating whatever the word is.
16:47 --> 16:49 [SPEAKER_01]: All right, you should not have more films made.
16:49 --> 16:51 [SPEAKER_01]: Like, not disagree more.
16:54 --> 16:59 [SPEAKER_01]: You know, like people have a right to like whatever movies they like.
16:59 --> 17:02 [SPEAKER_01]: It's like art is subjective, my man.
17:02 --> 17:10 [SPEAKER_01]: Like I, the last Jedi is one of my favorite Star Wars movies ever made, and I get so much flag for it.
17:11 --> 17:12 [SPEAKER_01]: You know what's funny?
17:12 --> 17:16 [SPEAKER_01]: Hey, that doesn't mean I don't have the right to love Latin the last Jedi.
17:16 --> 17:20 [SPEAKER_01]: And that doesn't give me the right to all those other people there, they're wrong.
17:20 --> 17:26 [SPEAKER_00]: Because, oh, I disagree entirely, because first, the last Jedi is the best of that trilogy.
17:27 --> 17:29 [SPEAKER_00]: people were just very reactive because it didn't know.
17:30 --> 17:35 [SPEAKER_00]: No, I mean, it's not, though, it's not, and this is why this is why this is why Tyler.
17:37 --> 17:40 [SPEAKER_00]: This is why Tyler, yeah, this is why, what is the plot of this film?
17:41 --> 17:41 [SPEAKER_00]: I don't know.
17:42 --> 17:43 [SPEAKER_00]: Exactly.
17:43 --> 17:44 [SPEAKER_00]: So it's a horrible film.
17:44 --> 17:45 [SPEAKER_00]: It has no idea what.
17:45 --> 17:45 [SPEAKER_00]: I've been flip.
17:45 --> 17:45 [SPEAKER_00]: I was being flip.
17:46 --> 17:55 [SPEAKER_01]: I think it's things kind of, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's,
17:56 --> 17:57 [SPEAKER_00]: That's not a plot.
18:00 --> 18:04 [SPEAKER_01]: I think it's not a very good idea to do why things are happening when they're happening.
18:05 --> 18:14 [SPEAKER_01]: Like, you know, basically the only thing that's the reason why Eric Reed has come out of hiding now is the other half of the crystal is charged.
18:15 --> 18:19 [SPEAKER_00]: See, now I can tell I, I can tell I got you in a gacha.
18:19 --> 18:44 [SPEAKER_00]: because when I asked you that of what is the plot and you can identify what do we call films that have no plot I just I told you the I told you the plot where you started talking but that's not even the plot though it doesn't show up in the film because and that's where I got him detoured to to Asian the land of the cultural appropriation yes like like we're not talking to the show you know at a freaking nowhere
18:45 --> 18:49 [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, like, I'm not saying you specifically don't don't take it that way.
18:49 --> 19:01 [SPEAKER_00]: No, but it's good, but I'm saying we just had a moment where I said was the plot, you cannot identify the plot, like the actual true main plot, that's a bad film.
19:02 --> 19:05 [SPEAKER_00]: People are liking a bad film and again,
19:05 --> 19:10 [SPEAKER_00]: I agree with you, uh, people can like what they want acknowledge it's a bad film.
19:10 --> 19:28 [SPEAKER_01]: A lot of people are saying people liking a bad film and liking a film that you don't like, because you're like, like, that's what we're being looking through the window, watching SpongeBob and Patrick playing, let people like stuff because this is how our standards are lowered.
19:28 --> 19:32 [SPEAKER_00]: Again, I'm not, I did not walk into this film thinking this was a Academy award-winning.
19:32 --> 19:33 [SPEAKER_00]: None of that.
19:33 --> 19:38 [SPEAKER_00]: But this is how Slop is normalized in everyday writing.
19:39 --> 19:40 [SPEAKER_00]: And it should not be accepted.
19:40 --> 19:42 [SPEAKER_00]: Not everybody needs a platform.
19:43 --> 19:44 [SPEAKER_00]: Aaron should not have made a movie.
19:45 --> 19:46 [SPEAKER_00]: This is a movie.
19:46 --> 19:49 [SPEAKER_00]: And this is not even discussing the main plot.
19:49 --> 19:53 [SPEAKER_00]: This is not even discussing like the actual movie.
19:53 --> 19:58 [SPEAKER_00]: Like for whatever perspective or like a rating or whatever.
19:59 --> 20:12 [SPEAKER_00]: If they can't identify a plot and set pieces are forced from scene to scene, essentially, that's not a good movie and at least in a bad movie, like, if I said to you, hey, this is a bad movie.
20:12 --> 20:15 [SPEAKER_00]: Well, some people like it sure, but should they continue making it, no.
20:16 --> 20:20 [SPEAKER_00]: Then it's a bad movie and people need to vote with their walls of no, we don't want more of this.
20:21 --> 20:24 [SPEAKER_00]: This is where I said earlier, people did not.
20:24 --> 20:26 [SPEAKER_00]: The people who are saying this is a master piece,
20:27 --> 20:29 [SPEAKER_00]: are the people who wanted to see Jason David Frank.
20:30 --> 20:32 [SPEAKER_00]: They did not want to see the actual movie.
20:33 --> 20:36 [SPEAKER_00]: They are giving Jason's performance, the masterpiece.
20:36 --> 20:43 [SPEAKER_00]: The movie itself, I would bet you could ask them, be like, no, they could not even tell you who the name of the villain is in the movie.
20:44 --> 20:46 [SPEAKER_00]: That's played by Aaron, because I can't remember it.
20:47 --> 20:48 [SPEAKER_00]: I think it's not even a draw.
20:48 --> 20:49 [SPEAKER_01]: I think it's not even a draw.
20:50 --> 20:52 [SPEAKER_01]: I did have to look it up to make sure I was spelling it, right?
20:56 --> 21:12 [SPEAKER_01]: is I don't think that the money made or whatever buy this small $4 billion indie project is going to change any mods and Hollywood on anything.
21:12 --> 21:18 [SPEAKER_01]: But point number two is Hollywood is already making these films before Redbox went away.
21:18 --> 21:24 [SPEAKER_01]: This is what the sort of stuff that Bruce Willis was doing in his last few years before dementia
21:25 --> 21:26 [SPEAKER_01]: force him into retirement.
21:27 --> 21:29 [SPEAKER_01]: So Hollywood is already making these movies.
21:29 --> 21:33 [SPEAKER_01]: It's just that this one happens to star Jason David Frank.
21:36 --> 21:41 [SPEAKER_00]: Right, and in the same kind of respect for it, did anybody say Bruce Wilson films were good?
21:42 --> 22:10 [SPEAKER_01]: when he was doing those know they were crapped to and no one wanted to do is they pre-sell they pre-sell distribution internationally something I'm not sure that bad and the sun did and they make money before a frame is even shot ironically aside from you know the rare release like buddy which is very correctly came to need to see it the like one of the studio or distributor is that makes the most money probably putting out those sorts of movies
22:10 --> 22:27 [SPEAKER_01]: It's a bomb film, believe it or not, but they put them out by the show load, like seriously look at like you know you wonder how they they make money like putting out with like with the exception of buddy and the occasional Kevin Smith movie.
22:27 --> 22:53 [SPEAKER_01]: like the movies they put on nothing like like rental and it trash like this is the sort of stuff that John Travolta is spending his time doing rather than you know actual movies or like you know Mel Gibson or I'll turn up doing one of these because he I guess has bills to pay and but that is why I have though like I understand
22:55 --> 23:15 [SPEAKER_00]: like there is stuff beyond our control where it's part of the contract of oh we'll let you make we'll let you get access to this very popular anime demons layer but you have to dub these ten other series that are not nearly as good I understand that there are things that are outside control but when people say they like this film you are enabling stuff like that to continue
23:16 --> 23:18 [SPEAKER_01]: And that's not going to continue.
23:18 --> 23:19 [SPEAKER_01]: You can't stop it.
23:20 --> 23:23 [SPEAKER_00]: What you can do is, it's called voting with your wallet.
23:24 --> 23:26 [SPEAKER_00]: It's not accepting everything that they call you.
23:26 --> 23:27 [SPEAKER_00]: That's about to say it now.
23:28 --> 23:35 [SPEAKER_01]: Look at all the people who's who rally like to get coyotever who's at me or at least who finally got to see it.
23:35 --> 23:36 [SPEAKER_01]: And it was awesome.
23:36 --> 23:40 [SPEAKER_01]: People should support aren't they like whether you like it or not.
23:41 --> 23:42 [SPEAKER_00]: No, they shouldn't.
23:46 --> 23:53 [SPEAKER_00]: If you want to support it, you should also have to face the reality at the same time that if I asked someone, did you support this film?
23:54 --> 23:55 [SPEAKER_00]: Yes, it's at a bad film.
23:56 --> 23:58 [SPEAKER_00]: Yes, then find everybody's on the same page.
23:58 --> 24:01 [SPEAKER_00]: If you want to like it and say, what is your real reason?
24:01 --> 24:05 [SPEAKER_00]: That's fine, but don't think we're all free on the same page.
24:05 --> 24:06 [SPEAKER_01]: I agree to find bad films.
24:07 --> 24:09 [SPEAKER_01]: There would be no need for movie reviewers.
24:11 --> 24:15 [SPEAKER_00]: The difference, however, is to me for it.
24:15 --> 24:30 [SPEAKER_00]: There's a soul difference of which movie is better Shawshank redemption or say Oppenheimer because there are two different stories, but I can tell you the plots of those Tyler, if I ask, I just wrote it in your crash, and that's fine.
24:32 --> 24:35 [SPEAKER_00]: That is subjective, but they all still tell a story.
24:35 --> 24:42 [SPEAKER_00]: I circle back around again, Tyler, if I told you what is the plot of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers the movie from 1995, what is the plot?
24:46 --> 24:55 [SPEAKER_01]: Bringers lose their power and have to go to a faraway planet to defeat.
24:57 --> 25:00 [SPEAKER_01]: I haven't oozed and saved a bunch of parents with dodgy accents.
25:02 --> 25:06 [SPEAKER_00]: I would say you could take out all the fluff and say, beat Ivan who's is the plot.
25:06 --> 25:07 [SPEAKER_00]: Yes, that is the plot.
25:07 --> 25:13 [SPEAKER_00]: There are some side stories such as getting their powers, trying to say sword on whatever is going on with the kid
25:15 --> 25:21 [SPEAKER_00]: That's all side stuff that supports getting to the end goal, but the main plot is still B-I-M-U's.
25:21 --> 25:24 [SPEAKER_00]: For Pokemon, the first movie, unless you haven't seen it.
25:25 --> 25:30 [SPEAKER_01]: Well, then it's the second movie, you know, like, like, beat the other dragon?
25:31 --> 25:34 [SPEAKER_00]: No, because that was never, that I will get to that.
25:34 --> 25:35 [SPEAKER_00]: I will circle to that.
25:36 --> 25:37 [SPEAKER_00]: Let's, let me get to that point.
25:38 --> 25:40 [SPEAKER_00]: where I'm talking about like art in different ones.
25:40 --> 25:41 [SPEAKER_00]: Pokemon the first movie.
25:42 --> 25:46 [SPEAKER_00]: If I asked someone what that plot is, some people would say it's stopping you to.
25:46 --> 25:47 [SPEAKER_00]: Okay, I could accept that.
25:47 --> 25:50 [SPEAKER_00]: There is enough on-screen evidence that that could be the main plot.
25:50 --> 25:56 [SPEAKER_00]: You could also say it is basically more of a tragedy and YouTube finding his place in the world.
25:57 --> 26:03 [SPEAKER_00]: Okay, that could also be the main plot because both of those kind of work side by side you can't tell the story without the other.
26:04 --> 26:05 [SPEAKER_00]: To me, that is an artwork form.
26:06 --> 26:08 [SPEAKER_00]: When you look at this film, what is the plot?
26:08 --> 26:16 [SPEAKER_00]: And I always circle back to it because is it like JD Eric Reed being the archaeologist and kind of being shoved into a superhero position?
26:17 --> 26:18 [SPEAKER_01]: No, not really, is it?
26:18 --> 26:20 [SPEAKER_01]: I don't even see him hunting any treasure.
26:20 --> 26:22 [SPEAKER_01]: He's not an archaeologist, he's a treasure hunter.
26:23 --> 26:24 [SPEAKER_01]: And we dare to see him hunting a treasure.
26:25 --> 26:26 [SPEAKER_00]: Correct.
26:28 --> 26:51 [SPEAKER_00]: is it him trying to find redemption and the the whatever number of people I know they said a lot but I've kind of blotted that out at this point of the people he killed or gotten to the battle with the collateral damage not really he didn't kill those people he was framed yeah it was as whatever that as a gore padda mondab want to may whatever panda bear whatever villain
26:56 --> 27:01 [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it's not even a That's not the plot because no he wasn't looking for redemption.
27:01 --> 27:14 [SPEAKER_00]: He kind of isolated himself from it is the plot Kind of the flip side of the uh of Aaron's character like trying to seek revenge for his wife and daughter like no That's not really the plot either.
27:14 --> 27:25 [SPEAKER_00]: That's kind of the side plot Is it about what the legend of the white dragon is we don't even know what the legend of the white dragon is It's not even only told except it says kind of exists so it's like
27:27 --> 27:44 [SPEAKER_01]: And so much was made on a film, and so much is made of Jennifer Inc. being this movie, but she, in three to Vincent's character, she plays Eric Rees' wife, they just spend nearly all of their screen time looking concerned in a living room.
27:45 --> 27:45 [SPEAKER_01]: Correct.
27:46 --> 27:46 [SPEAKER_01]: They did that.
27:46 --> 27:47 [SPEAKER_01]: Eyes of the TV.
27:48 --> 27:49 [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
27:49 --> 27:51 [SPEAKER_00]: Like, it's not even that good.
27:51 --> 27:51 [SPEAKER_00]: I can't
27:52 --> 27:59 [SPEAKER_00]: I'm not going to say it's good acting because I don't even know that they had enough screen time to even like get a rating.
28:00 --> 28:12 [SPEAKER_00]: Like it's not even good like that's why I said kind of like leading into it of like everything about this movie from the acting to the um
28:13 --> 28:14 [SPEAKER_00]: to the audio mixing.
28:14 --> 28:20 [SPEAKER_00]: So even the thing that they are supposed to be really good at, the action, it sucks.
28:21 --> 28:29 [SPEAKER_00]: Like, all of the movie, there is no free bright spot in this film, where you can go, yes, that was actually good.
28:29 --> 28:31 [SPEAKER_00]: There is some can't be redeeming this.
28:31 --> 28:32 [SPEAKER_00]: There is I agree with you.
28:32 --> 28:40 [SPEAKER_00]: I have 1% agree with you, Tyler, that there was an idea and that you can see the little bits of those sprinkles here and there,
28:43 --> 28:59 [SPEAKER_00]: they do nothing with that idea like I thought for example like the if they were wanting to put a twist on of the legend of the white dragon being oh the white dragon was framed and that he was killed okay that's an interesting take on it I like that
29:00 --> 29:04 [SPEAKER_01]: I think in the other hand, I think like one of the problems is that this movie was designed.
29:05 --> 29:07 [SPEAKER_01]: There was a pre-coveritten and a sequel for it.
29:07 --> 29:15 [SPEAKER_01]: This movie is basically the middle movie and that's why there are so many flashbacks to another movie that wasn't made.
29:16 --> 29:19 [SPEAKER_01]: Like every five seconds, there's also a lot of telling rather than showing.
29:20 --> 29:25 [SPEAKER_01]: Though again, maybe that's a product of how his death impact the production.
29:30 --> 29:32 [SPEAKER_01]: or show who completely differently.
29:33 --> 29:46 [SPEAKER_00]: All right, and the entire irony is they're like, we didn't, well, there's so much that goes, I have other issues with this film, but there are many of the comments of Baton the Sun now trying to move the goal post.
29:46 --> 29:55 [SPEAKER_00]: If that was one of those of, oh, well, we didn't get, didn't Jason David Frank say like the film was complete, well, there's research and stuff.
29:55 --> 29:58 [SPEAKER_00]: Guys, principal photography is a lot of the film.
30:00 --> 30:09 [SPEAKER_01]: like don't even actually like a front, they plan to have resheats in Marvel films.
30:10 --> 30:10 [SPEAKER_00]: Correct.
30:10 --> 30:15 [SPEAKER_00]: And I understand when stuff is like not well received, they go do resheats.
30:15 --> 30:22 [SPEAKER_00]: Like I think it was the latest Captain America where they did a ton of like resheats because it was not well received by like the preview audiences.
30:23 --> 30:25 [SPEAKER_00]: I get that, but the movie was mostly done.
30:26 --> 30:28 [SPEAKER_00]: It's just like, here, like, guys, what are you talking about?
30:28 --> 30:30 [SPEAKER_00]: The principal stuff that made stuff was done.
30:31 --> 30:33 [SPEAKER_00]: This is on, well, guys, for making a crappy film.
30:34 --> 30:55 [SPEAKER_01]: I mean, I believe when the executive producer said, in March of last year, that the film was pictured locked at that time and undergoing color correction, because we know that well after chasing Frank Death, there were still things to do, like, A&ER, and we saw evidence they were doing A&ER and all that, and the mixing, and it wasn't presented to distributors until last July,
30:56 --> 31:05 [SPEAKER_01]: But I think it also speaks volumes that we didn't know until March that it wouldn't need to have a distributor.
31:05 --> 31:09 [SPEAKER_01]: It took them that long, you know, they kept missing.
31:09 --> 31:09 [SPEAKER_01]: Nobody wanted it.
31:09 --> 31:10 [SPEAKER_01]: I don't want it to have a release date.
31:11 --> 31:12 [SPEAKER_01]: Exactly, nobody did want it.
31:13 --> 31:22 [SPEAKER_01]: But because I think, you know, when you're a distributor in a film or when you're looking to a distributor film, you're not like, give you the same kind of,
31:23 --> 31:26 [SPEAKER_01]: break that we that I might or that other people might.
31:27 --> 31:34 [SPEAKER_01]: You're looking at Willis make money for me and there are a lot of, a lot of films that well-go puts out.
31:34 --> 31:37 [SPEAKER_01]: They probably maybe don't make money on because they don't have money in it.
31:39 --> 31:39 [SPEAKER_01]: Exactly.
31:40 --> 31:46 [SPEAKER_00]: Like, how else can you also say like this movie
31:50 --> 32:18 [SPEAKER_00]: you fund raises five thousand five hundred on your kickstarter and it cost four million to make you get extremely extenuating circumstances aside your movie bond like people did not want to see this film for a second or third time now why can i admit that i was absolutely wrong when i when i was with my buddy when we went to go see and i said i bet there's twenty people in here and there was a packed theater i was absolutely wrong
32:18 --> 32:23 [SPEAKER_00]: But was I wrong because the first person who stood up and yelled, well, that was a complete disaster.
32:23 --> 32:26 [SPEAKER_01]: Look, I've seen films and emptier movie theaters.
32:28 --> 32:29 [SPEAKER_01]: I've seen all the movie better, man.
32:30 --> 32:31 [SPEAKER_01]: The Robbie Williams are.
32:31 --> 32:34 [SPEAKER_01]: I picked and I was literally the only person in there.
32:34 --> 32:35 [SPEAKER_01]: And I had the time in my life.
32:37 --> 32:38 [SPEAKER_00]: I've also I agree with you.
32:38 --> 32:41 [SPEAKER_00]: I've seen emptier films or empty theaters with better films.
32:42 --> 32:44 [SPEAKER_00]: Transformers one was one of those.
32:44 --> 32:46 [SPEAKER_00]: And I that was like the second week.
32:46 --> 32:48 [SPEAKER_00]: It was in theaters and I'd love that film.
32:48 --> 32:59 [SPEAKER_00]: it is such a great film, it has such great character development, it has a great villain you have, like, I want to say air quote root 4, but kind of the same thing, and it made its money back still with it.
33:00 --> 33:08 [SPEAKER_00]: This movie didn't, like, they're moving the goalposts, just like in any circumstance, like, again, you mentioned like this film was like kind of the middle film.
33:09 --> 33:11 [SPEAKER_00]: Why was this the middle film?
33:11 --> 33:13 [SPEAKER_00]: Like guys, this is moving the goalposts of,
33:16 --> 33:21 [SPEAKER_00]: Quit lying back in the sun and just say this was not a video leave their line.
33:21 --> 33:41 [SPEAKER_00]: Oh, I went thousand but said believe they're I mean that's a stream they're saying it's now otherwise it's state media don't get me wrong they're the they're not gonna come out and say their film is bad but like guys I do not believe in the slightest in the slightest that oh this is the middle film why was this not said
33:42 --> 33:44 [SPEAKER_00]: during any other interview until today.
33:44 --> 33:45 [SPEAKER_00]: That's why I believe they're lying.
33:45 --> 33:47 [SPEAKER_00]: I will outright say to their face, they are lying.
33:48 --> 33:51 [SPEAKER_00]: You know, we've discussed a lot, okay?
33:51 --> 33:53 [SPEAKER_00]: And we haven't even gotten to the actual stuff.
33:54 --> 34:00 [SPEAKER_00]: You know what to me, really set the tone of this film, which we talked about, you mentioned you were laughing.
34:01 --> 34:08 [SPEAKER_00]: I think the perfect encapsulation of what set the tone for the entire film was at the very beginning,
34:09 --> 34:12 [SPEAKER_00]: when I believe it was Aaron's character, slap the mayor.
34:12 --> 34:15 [SPEAKER_00]: I laughed at how weak that slap was.
34:15 --> 34:25 [SPEAKER_01]: I was just at the moment actually, Aaron shaky came on screen because he's one of two people who seemed to have walked down to the set from some other movie.
34:25 --> 34:27 [SPEAKER_01]: The other person being King Buck.
34:28 --> 34:29 [SPEAKER_00]: I hate a King Box character.
34:30 --> 34:32 [SPEAKER_00]: I was like, what is, what is this?
34:32 --> 34:36 [SPEAKER_00]: Are you trying to make a radic AI type of deal
34:37 --> 34:47 [SPEAKER_00]: May it was so the tone was so all over the place, um, but speaking of that was where I was going with that, I did, I had an epiphany and I told it to you.
34:48 --> 34:51 [SPEAKER_00]: Aaron himself was a self-insert O.C.
34:51 --> 35:02 [SPEAKER_00]: into his own film, whatever the reason for it, whether it was to try to say he was Jason Dave or Frank's other half, whether he was supposedly working through issues.
35:02 --> 35:09 [SPEAKER_00]: Whatever it was, I held when I had the epiphany love, oh shit, he has a red and black edge lord O.C.
35:09 --> 35:10 [SPEAKER_00]: in this film.
35:12 --> 35:15 [SPEAKER_00]: And that's what it is, Dragon Prime literally is an edge lord.
35:15 --> 35:18 [SPEAKER_01]: Either way, they're not going to really be making money off this.
35:18 --> 35:19 [SPEAKER_01]: They've admitted it.
35:19 --> 35:20 [SPEAKER_01]: They're going to be in the red on this.
35:21 --> 35:24 [SPEAKER_00]: As they should be, like, I gently deep down.
35:24 --> 35:29 [SPEAKER_00]: That's why I said, like, I, generally, they only released this because they didn't want to be in legal trouble.
35:29 --> 35:33 [SPEAKER_00]: I think they saw potentially like, and they did not do this.
35:34 --> 35:36 [SPEAKER_00]: Somehow, it was going to circle back to them.
35:37 --> 35:41 [SPEAKER_01]: And, or no, Kickstarter, you know, Kickstarter, you're throwing your money away.
35:41 --> 35:43 [SPEAKER_01]: You know, you don't have any right here.
35:43 --> 35:44 [SPEAKER_01]: Get anything for money.
35:45 --> 35:57 [SPEAKER_00]: Well, I also think, and I don't think it, I really don't think it would have changed it, whether it was, unless this was like a fantastic movie, I think it's also a reputation thing.
35:57 --> 35:59 [SPEAKER_00]: If they didn't release it, well, you're blacklisted.
35:59 --> 36:00 [SPEAKER_00]: Well, you released a crappy film.
36:00 --> 36:10 [SPEAKER_00]: Well, I guess you're not getting blacklisted, but we're not hiring you for anything type, but you'll so you're like unspoken blacklisted from an I guess, which maybe they
36:14 --> 36:23 [SPEAKER_00]: got too big for their bridges and they got they faced the reality situation of being an independent independent developer is hard.
36:24 --> 36:38 [SPEAKER_00]: Again, you know why I say that I have no personal experience in that I'm not going that direction, but you know what one of my favorite like indie films of all time is and I think they had a budget of like not even $20.
36:40 --> 37:05 [SPEAKER_00]: the original okay the first i'm not talking the rest of the films i could care less about the rest of the films the very first paranormal activity fantastic film low budget got its plot across was a scary film use practical effects and it was a pit and i think again it was only like 15 thousand dollar budget again i understand what they were working with a little different
37:10 --> 37:15 [SPEAKER_00]: how much more to baton the sun have with the years of experience and what they gave to their audience.
37:15 --> 37:19 [SPEAKER_00]: Again, it just kills me.
37:19 --> 37:20 [SPEAKER_00]: You know what also killed me about this film?
37:21 --> 37:29 [SPEAKER_00]: You want to actually have the best acting in this film and I thought she actually did for all 10 minutes she was on the screen if at all was Sierra.
37:30 --> 37:31 [SPEAKER_00]: I thought Sierra actually was the best
37:41 --> 37:46 [SPEAKER_01]: You know, like they were among a few people in this movie who weren't like sleepwalking through it.
37:47 --> 37:56 [SPEAKER_00]: Right, you could tell I actually the one where it was like, I think it was one of the big get middle maybe middle scenes when it was a flashback.
37:56 --> 37:58 [SPEAKER_01]: Like Runder J also.
37:58 --> 38:00 [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, he was talking.
38:00 --> 38:01 [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
38:01 --> 38:05 [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, like I remember it was like the first flashback with Aaron.
38:06 --> 38:29 [SPEAKER_00]: and see her and it was like you could tell Aaron was like whatever issues that character was having and she turns into livers like a hey we both agreed to be open with each other talk to me that was a great that's a lot of tell don't show correct I thought she was one of the better ones unfortunately for her role the male gaze was very much present in this film because
38:35 --> 38:37 [SPEAKER_00]: But I think that I don't I don't know that term.
38:37 --> 38:46 [SPEAKER_01]: That is when a female character is killed solely to advance a male character.
38:47 --> 38:48 [SPEAKER_00]: Okay, so I know that soul.
38:49 --> 38:58 [SPEAKER_00]: I don't know that term, but I was that's actually in my notes, Tyler of I hate them using death to advance the plot when it serves no purpose.
38:59 --> 39:07 [SPEAKER_00]: This I guess you could say it's sort of the purpose here, but with such a minor consequence type of deal that it's used cheaply and you're right.
39:07 --> 39:11 [SPEAKER_00]: That's what she is and it's creepy because it's almost like errands.
39:11 --> 39:22 [SPEAKER_00]: I want to have sex with a power Ranger like family like it's weird and the entire irony is I didn't unlike everybody if there is something I will say I am on the
39:22 --> 39:28 [SPEAKER_00]: on an island for I know plenty people are arguing about the flashbacks they are arguing about like all the kissing and stuff.
39:28 --> 39:30 [SPEAKER_00]: That actually didn't bug me.
39:30 --> 39:33 [SPEAKER_00]: I thought the flashbacks were not nearly as numerous as what people thought.
39:33 --> 39:35 [SPEAKER_00]: I think it's a bad story telling mechanic.
39:35 --> 39:35 [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
39:35 --> 39:39 [SPEAKER_00]: They didn't think they were they were like 20 of them.
39:39 --> 39:40 [SPEAKER_00]: No, there was like five.
39:41 --> 39:45 [SPEAKER_00]: And same thing with like the Sierra and the Aaron like love story like that didn't bug me.
39:45 --> 39:51 [SPEAKER_00]: It just showed that that character really loved his wife and drove that like I didn't have issues with that.
39:52 --> 39:54 [SPEAKER_00]: It was just, it was weird.
39:54 --> 39:55 [SPEAKER_00]: It gave the weird tone.
39:56 --> 39:57 [SPEAKER_00]: I did that out of it.
39:57 --> 40:02 [SPEAKER_00]: If you isolated it and said to me, the romance stuff, no, that, that would not.
40:03 --> 40:04 [SPEAKER_00]: I've all done other problems in the films.
40:04 --> 40:06 [SPEAKER_00]: That was not the problem.
40:06 --> 40:09 [SPEAKER_01]: And I think there is time to look into the room here.
40:09 --> 40:11 [SPEAKER_01]: If you're going to talk about the performances.
40:12 --> 40:17 [SPEAKER_01]: And it's tough to talk about because there's nobody, without him, this movie wouldn't exist.
40:21 --> 40:23 [SPEAKER_01]: is he's got a lot of charisma.
40:24 --> 40:25 [SPEAKER_01]: He's a great martial artist.
40:25 --> 40:29 [SPEAKER_01]: He was a great martial artist, but he was not a great actor.
40:31 --> 40:35 [SPEAKER_01]: He just cannot deliver, he could not.
40:35 --> 40:43 [SPEAKER_01]: I should say, deliver a convincing performance outside of a Powerages Project.
40:45 --> 40:48 [SPEAKER_00]: I'm gonna be the opposite, but I'm a little more forgiving.
40:49 --> 40:54 [SPEAKER_00]: I agree with you that I think Jason's acting is very mid on his own.
40:55 --> 40:58 [SPEAKER_01]: I'm almost as bad as whoever put that wig on him.
40:59 --> 41:08 [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, see, I thought that was so out of place too, like, but that was so awkward.
41:09 --> 41:10 [SPEAKER_00]: They needed to do something else.
41:10 --> 41:12 [SPEAKER_00]: I don't know what you could do,
41:14 --> 41:16 [SPEAKER_00]: it was its own weird.
41:16 --> 41:17 [SPEAKER_00]: It's a meme thing.
41:17 --> 41:18 [SPEAKER_00]: It's that's going to be a meme in the future.
41:19 --> 41:21 [SPEAKER_00]: Once this film is on digital and people can screen cap it.
41:22 --> 41:28 [SPEAKER_00]: But I'm a little of a this, I'm a disagreement though with it of on his own.
41:28 --> 41:31 [SPEAKER_00]: And I said this earlier and the podcast.
41:33 --> 41:36 [SPEAKER_00]: I think Jason David Frank on his own is very mid.
41:36 --> 41:37 [SPEAKER_00]: He has the charisma
41:38 --> 41:43 [SPEAKER_00]: but he does shine when he has a great acting director.
41:43 --> 41:45 [SPEAKER_00]: We have seen that in Power Rangers of him.
41:45 --> 41:49 [SPEAKER_00]: He can hold scenes and I don't think that was the problem.
41:49 --> 41:56 [SPEAKER_00]: I don't think they had any of these acting teachers, the intimacy directors, the action, the action.
41:56 --> 41:58 [SPEAKER_01]: They didn't like one of those, definitely.
41:58 --> 42:00 [SPEAKER_01]: Well, yes, coordinators.
42:01 --> 42:01 [SPEAKER_00]: Absolutely.
42:01 --> 42:03 [SPEAKER_00]: You get where I say is I think if he is.
42:04 --> 42:29 [SPEAKER_00]: I think as a, and I struggle with this and that's where I'm a little more forgiving of sometimes where it's like I'm asked to think outside the box I can't but if you tell me to do something I am able to do it and really excel so it looks like oh I've been doing this all my life and some stuff I can do that and I think Jason David Frank is like that when they give him a direction he is able to do it I think he would have been a great actor.
42:30 --> 42:32 [SPEAKER_00]: if he had an acting coach with him on set.
42:32 --> 42:34 [SPEAKER_00]: I don't think he had one year and it showed.
42:35 --> 42:41 [SPEAKER_00]: So his performance was like years years in years advanced versus errands, but that's another story.
42:41 --> 42:43 [SPEAKER_00]: Don't as a director you should not be in your own film.
42:44 --> 42:47 [SPEAKER_00]: I have that problem with if for I have the problem with this film.
42:47 --> 42:49 [SPEAKER_00]: Like don't be a main character in your film.
42:50 --> 42:57 [SPEAKER_01]: Now to sum it up, if you could give this film a great out of 10, a positive number
42:58 --> 43:01 [SPEAKER_01]: any between zero and 10.
43:01 --> 43:03 [SPEAKER_01]: I'm asking this very isn't obviously.
43:04 --> 43:05 [SPEAKER_01]: What would you give it?
43:07 --> 43:11 [SPEAKER_00]: Give me five minutes because I have an explanation for this.
43:11 --> 43:12 [SPEAKER_00]: I actually have this written down.
43:13 --> 43:13 [SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
43:14 --> 43:14 [SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
43:15 --> 43:17 [SPEAKER_00]: I struggle with two numbers on this one.
43:17 --> 43:18 [SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
43:19 --> 43:19 [SPEAKER_00]: Look.
43:20 --> 43:24 [SPEAKER_00]: This movie was a team who poweranger movie that failed at being a poweranger's film.
43:24 --> 43:29 [SPEAKER_00]: Ironically in this film, the best parts were the poweranger nods at this point.
43:30 --> 43:36 [SPEAKER_00]: Is there something that seems like there was a hint, like there was a framework that existed before.
43:36 --> 43:40 [SPEAKER_00]: I acknowledge that sure, but they did not capitalize on that.
43:40 --> 43:46 [SPEAKER_00]: Is there stuff that is hard to replicate because there was more money that needs to be funneled into this project?
43:50 --> 43:57 [SPEAKER_00]: some people close saying like they were already in it financially like there was a lot of stuff that sure you can acknowledge that.
43:58 --> 44:14 [SPEAKER_00]: The problem is is regardless of any excuse any goal post you can move any like delving into the plot the acting whatever the biggest offender of this film it's a boring film that has none of the charm or none of the like they can't be quote classics that
44:15 --> 44:16 [SPEAKER_00]: 16 type of deal.
44:16 --> 44:18 [SPEAKER_00]: It doesn't succeed at any one thing.
44:18 --> 44:25 [SPEAKER_00]: There are better Power Ranger episodes that are like universally hated that are better than this film.
44:26 --> 44:35 [SPEAKER_00]: So when I say my rating, I struggle back and forth because if you get on into a movie theater, that is still an accomplishment on your own.
44:36 --> 44:40 [SPEAKER_00]: Like Superman 64 and echo the dolphin got on the console, like
44:45 --> 45:02 [SPEAKER_00]: I go back and forth that this is either a one out of 10 film, the one solely being that it at least made to theaters, or it's like a three out of 10, because there are some stuff that you can pick of like, it may have been an idea, but they just did not move forward with it for whatever reason.
45:02 --> 45:08 [SPEAKER_00]: I give it at least a one, because kind of what you said earlier, at least it made it to theaters on like the order.
45:08 --> 45:12 [SPEAKER_00]: Like, I don't really know what the answer is to this.
45:12 --> 45:13 [SPEAKER_00]: I feel like this is,
45:14 --> 45:43 [SPEAKER_00]: This is closer to like dashcon ball pit levels than like I think county fairs like do better like organization type of stuff than like this film appeared I don't know what the answer is but after five years I kind of keep circling back around of this is the flop we got like this there's not even like I've always been into the impression that to have a successful film okay yeah I've a plot we we have exhausted that
45:43 --> 46:03 [SPEAKER_00]: But like you got to have characters that are going through like a character art, otherwise you have a popcorn film, I guess you could say Eric read had one and so did Aaron's character, I guess, but it's so basic that it's very boring to see on screen.
46:03 --> 46:07 [SPEAKER_00]: or you have to have a villain that's like fun or is like truly threatening.
46:07 --> 46:11 [SPEAKER_00]: At no point did I ever think Aaron's character was a threatening villain.
46:11 --> 46:14 [SPEAKER_00]: I never thought the mayor was threatening at all.
46:14 --> 46:18 [SPEAKER_00]: Like there are too many things that it's like there is nothing successful.
46:18 --> 46:22 [SPEAKER_00]: So at least was there an action part of it that was good?
46:22 --> 46:25 [SPEAKER_00]: Not even that because they failed at the action part.
46:25 --> 46:30 [SPEAKER_00]: You want to ask me Tyler that if you were to look at this film, how would you grade this?
46:33 --> 46:34 [SPEAKER_00]: grade this film.
46:34 --> 46:41 [SPEAKER_00]: You don't want to unfairly criticize this film without being able to like analyze it because you don't want to grade it just to bash it.
46:41 --> 46:42 [SPEAKER_00]: And I agree with that.
46:42 --> 46:45 [SPEAKER_00]: Like, if you're going to go first, go see it.
46:45 --> 46:51 [SPEAKER_00]: Like, have that do have an opinion you need to be able to see it to be able to critically analyze it.
46:52 --> 46:55 [SPEAKER_00]: I think on one half, if you go by Robert's kind of
47:03 --> 47:08 [SPEAKER_00]: I don't think this film at all, well, again, put all my criticism, all of our differences aside.
47:08 --> 47:17 [SPEAKER_00]: I don't think it achieves what it sets itself out to do, which I do believe is a very valid criticism to rate this film very harshly.
47:18 --> 47:25 [SPEAKER_00]: I also think, too, for an, kind of, the eye test, like, does it pass the eye test at least of, does it try to do something?
47:26 --> 47:26 [SPEAKER_00]: It doesn't do that.
47:26 --> 47:27 [SPEAKER_00]: Well, either.
47:27 --> 47:30 [SPEAKER_00]: I think it's above a negative, which is why my score is so low.
47:31 --> 47:38 [SPEAKER_00]: Kind of like wrap that for my my type kind of like comments and a bow tie or a bow on a present at this point.
47:39 --> 47:40 [SPEAKER_00]: I don't think it's a good film.
47:40 --> 47:43 [SPEAKER_00]: I think it's a very lowly rated film.
47:44 --> 47:47 [SPEAKER_00]: I see again there are tiny bits and pieces.
47:47 --> 47:52 [SPEAKER_00]: that I could say like yes, maybe with a better one for this, it could have been a better film.
47:53 --> 47:57 [SPEAKER_00]: But with Aaron at the helm, I do not trust anything he does.
47:58 --> 48:04 [SPEAKER_00]: And to clarify too with this, because this is going, this is a little bit of a tangent, but I do want to state this.
48:06 --> 48:09 [SPEAKER_00]: It is okay to not be a good director.
48:10 --> 48:11 [SPEAKER_00]: It is okay to not be a good writer.
48:12 --> 48:13 [SPEAKER_00]: Lean into your strengths.
48:14 --> 48:20 [SPEAKER_00]: Aaron's strengths, we have seen it with that in the sun, is making the two action figures from the toy box fight each other.
48:21 --> 48:23 [SPEAKER_00]: There's no writing involved in it, it's just cool action.
48:24 --> 48:28 [SPEAKER_00]: And that's okay to admit your strength for that and lean into that.
48:28 --> 48:34 [SPEAKER_00]: The problem is, is he did not lean into those strengths and the action scene suffered as a result.
48:35 --> 48:38 [SPEAKER_00]: and the writing and the acting was already poor in general at this point.
48:38 --> 48:42 [SPEAKER_00]: I think he strained himself to thin for whatever reason for it.
48:42 --> 48:43 [SPEAKER_00]: I think he needed a bigger crew.
48:44 --> 48:57 [SPEAKER_00]: But all those factors aside, they all led into this very poorly rated, are poorly rated or rated film, which I am still trying to figure out why this film was rated or.
48:57 --> 48:58 [SPEAKER_00]: That's good.
48:59 --> 49:03 [SPEAKER_00]: That is a, I've asked the ether why I don't understand.
49:05 --> 49:06 [SPEAKER_00]: But that's my rating.
49:06 --> 49:22 [SPEAKER_00]: If I had to give a rating a one or a three, I think anything more is being too generous and I don't think that's being fair to the film itself because at the end of the day, it has to have something redeeming about it.
49:22 --> 49:25 [SPEAKER_00]: That makes you want to go back and watch it and this film has none.
49:26 --> 49:27 [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, what would you think?
49:27 --> 49:30 [SPEAKER_01]: I think I would rate it a one.
49:34 --> 49:40 [SPEAKER_01]: It just is not competently made, it's not competently written, it's not competently shot.
49:42 --> 49:47 [SPEAKER_01]: It's a vanity project not just for Jason David Frank, but for Aaron Shanky.
49:49 --> 49:57 [SPEAKER_01]: And it just isn't a, like, even given all the things that we're going on at the time.
50:04 --> 50:16 [SPEAKER_01]: to make, I would compare it to make a loveless in that I'm glad that it exists.
50:16 --> 50:33 [SPEAKER_01]: And I'm glad that I'm glad that these ideas or some version of them were able to make it into the ether, because the worst thing would have been for this movie to never see a later day.
50:35 --> 50:53 [SPEAKER_01]: That being said, this is on its merits and compared it against other films of not just this genre, but this level of D movie, sort of stuff that the asylum would put out.
50:55 --> 50:57 [SPEAKER_01]: You see what the asylum can do in a shark NATO budget.
51:05 --> 51:16 [SPEAKER_01]: an unfortunate post-cript to Jason David Frank's career, but not as unfortunate as if it had never come out at all.
51:17 --> 51:25 [SPEAKER_01]: And the reason it gets a one as opposed to his hero is because there are glimpses of the sort of performer that he was in life.
51:26 --> 51:29 [SPEAKER_01]: And also for, as I said,
51:35 --> 51:48 [SPEAKER_01]: probably has, maybe one of the only worthwhile scenes of the movie that fight scene between himself and dry and prime, the rest of it, you know, thrown right in the trash.
51:49 --> 51:59 [SPEAKER_01]: But, you know, there are people who are going to see us, who are going to love it, who are probably seeing it again, because they want to look at Jason Day of Frank, and that's where they get, and they get to
52:04 --> 52:18 [SPEAKER_01]: And, you know, being a good dude, mugging with his cast and crew, and remember the person that he was, and the source of joy he was to so many people.
52:19 --> 52:29 [SPEAKER_01]: And so we're going to call it a wrap on this episode, and we will see you next time on Reachcast.
52:30 --> 52:31 [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
